This was the first Indian film to open the International Indian Film Festival at New Delhi, 2003 in 32yrs and has received tremendous critical acclaim all over the country and abroad. A film based on a novel by Amrita Pritam set in 1946-1948, a period drama. The film has won in various categories at the Screen Awards 2004, for best cinematography, best art, best story, best lyrics. It went on to win all the other mainstream technical awards. Also best debut director at the Apsara Film Producers Guild Awards, 2004.
