Bikas Mishra’s film CHAURANGA is creating waves internationally getting support of various film and script funding agencies around the globe. Sanjay Suri and Onir are producing the film. It recently won the “INCREDIBLE INDIA” award at the co-production marker of the NFDC’s Film Bazaar at Goa, pipping projects of big names like Dibakar Banerjee and Ketan Mehta.
The win fetched 20000 USD for the filmmaker. This was followed by the Goteborg International Film Festival Fund, Sweden, selecting CHAURANGA for the script fund and awarding it 15000 USD.
Onir and Sanjay are also in talks with the German production house PONG for a co-production arrangement. They are expecting the Jharkhand Govt to support the project as well. The film is set in Jharkhand and the shooting begins in April-May next year. Bikas wants to capture the essence of Jharkhand’s summer. He hails from the region and has recently made a short film titled NAACH GANESH that was in Busan International Film Festival and Rotterdamn International Film Festival selection. It’s the story of a Chau Dancer from Jharkhand.
