Away from the heat and dust of electioneering, quietly in the remote Majuli river island of Assam, a Bollywood film based on United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) with Sanjay Suri as lead is being shot.
Music director of the film and the singer of the sole song of the film Zubeen Garg made the disclosure to media today. Garg himself was going to have a small cameo in the film.
Shot entirely in Assam with legendary Victor Banerjee as main supporting actor role, the film has been produced by the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) and is billed as the first full length Bollywood mainstream cinema touching the subject of insurgency.
The name of the film is ”As the river flows” and it will be a bilingual in both Assamese and Hindi. There will be four songs with only one on the lip and other are off lips,” said Garg who is leaving for the island tomorrow.
The shooting is expected to be over by first week of the next month and the film is expected to be released in September. Such has been the secrecy in the shooting that when BJP leader L K Advani visited Majuli island earlier this week, none of the local security apparatus knew that shooting was going on in the island, which was connected through only twice a day ferry only.
The lead female actor is Bidita from Kolkata with a sprinkling of veteran Assamese actors like Bishnu Kharghoria and Arun Hazarika acting in the film which has been directed by debutante director Bidyut Kotoky.
Actor Nandita Das was supposed to play the lead role but she could not adjust her dates and the role eventually went to Bidita.
